Phlebotomy
Most of you know how much I love nursing (sike)! My biggest nemesis at my job is drawing patients' blood. I don't have to do it all that much, because we have assistants that do it for us, but every once in a while, I have to suck it up & do it myself. It's the worst feeling going to a patient with a needle thinking that you might miss their vein, because if you do, they're going to look at you like you're crazy & tell you how much it hurts. Then, to make it even worse, you have to go ask someone else to draw your patient's blood for you, because you couldn't get it & most likely, that person's annoyed, because you've just interrupted what they're in the middle of. Well everyone, start cheering, because today was one of those circumstances where I had to do it myself. No, I wasn't confident, but I acted like I was. Miraculously, I got my patient's vein with the first stick. I must say, it was a big adrenaline rush...I was so siked for myself that I just had to share it with you guys! :)

I'm glad you got it on your first try, you just need some more practice. You should ask your boss if you could use her as a testing dummy.
I would offer my mine but I'm allergic to pain and suffering ;)

Go Libby!!! And yes, I second that fear....I didn't have it before but next time I go get my blood drawn I'm going to be trembling!!!

Libby!! that is awesome....I offer myself as a test dummy anytime you have sterile needles (unlike my whussy family here). I think my skin is made of rubber now. I understand the nurses frustration and have had up to 4 band-aids for one stick. It stings at first but I just keep thinking minor pain for health :)! Anywho, congrats on a job well done!!
